Foresight+ Launches. It Surfaces Noise As Signal. Context Is Everything, Naturally.
Foresight Sports released the Foresight+ Launch Monitor, a system that links hardware, Premier software, memberships, and course play. The intent is to let golfers carry session data into fittings. The problem is that range-ball sessions, tired swings, indoor tee height, and warm-up shots all corrupt the numbers. A fitting bay does not need more data. It needs cleaner answers to specific questions like whether a new iron shaft changed launch without widening dispersion.
This illustrates the principle of signal-to-noise ratio in performance data. The mechanism is confounding variables: environmental and physiological factors that distort measurement. More data without interpretation discipline produces false confidence. The lesson is that data collection is the easy part. Data triage is the hard part.
Foresight Sports, operating through fsgolf.net, built the Foresight+ system. Fitters are the intended users. The system exists to serve golfers who arrive with months of prior session data.
- Visit fsgolf.net and read the Foresight+ product page to understand what data points the system tracks. Expect to see launch angle, spin, and dispersion metrics listed.
- Open any free golf launch monitor app on your phone, such as one that uses your camera to estimate swing speed. Hit ten shots and record the numbers. Expect wildly inconsistent results.
- Look at your ten data points and try to identify which three shots had clean contact versus mishits. Expect to realize that averaging all ten gives you a meaningless number. This is the exact problem Foresight+ fitters face, only with better hardware.
