Meanwhile, 7% said AI hurt their revenue or client base. When given a hypothetical $10,000, more owners planned to invest in new products, market expansion, or equipment than in learning about AI.

The principle: technology adoption follows a curve where early enthusiasm collides with practical reality. Most businesses hear 'AI will transform everything,' try a chatbot once, and conclude it does nothing. The ones who see gains, that 9%, are applying AI to specific repetitive workflows rather than asking it to transform their business wholesale. Specificity beats ambition.
