Beginner Guide Says Fix The Process Before Automating It. Correct. Finally.
A beginner's guide to AI for small business warns against automating broken processes, skipping human review, and buying the biggest plan on day one. It recommends starting with free tiers, treating every AI output as a first draft, and checking data settings before inputting names, addresses, or financials. Businesses with under a dozen weekly customer inquiries apparently do not need a chatbot.
This demonstrates the principle of process before tool. Automation amplifies whatever you feed it. Feed it a mess, you get a faster mess. The mechanism is simple: technology scales the underlying system, including its flaws. Fix the system first. Then scale.

- Write down one repetitive task you do weekly that involves text, numbers, or scheduling. Note whether the current process is clean or chaotic.
- Open a free AI tool like ChatGPT and ask it to draft one iteration of that task. Do not input customer names or financial details.
- Review the output as a first draft, correct errors, and note whether the free tier limits you. Only upgrade when you hit a wall, not before.
