Survey Says AI Users Earn $555 Monthly. Nonusers Get $333. Arithmetic Was Always The Prerequisite.
Network Solutions surveyed 1,007 side hustlers and found AI users reporting average monthly earnings of $555 versus $333 for nonusers. AI users also saved nearly nine hours per week. Thirty-three percent said they probably or definitely would not have started their side hustle without AI access.
This demonstrates what economists call technology-mediated labor leverage. The mechanism is simple: AI compresses the time required for routine tasks, freeing the human to take on more clients or more work. The earnings gap is not magic. It is what happens when you remove hours of drudgery from a person's weekly schedule.
Network Solutions conducted the survey of 1,007 side hustlers. The respondents are people running businesses outside traditional employment, with AI users earning $222 more per month on average.
- Pick one repetitive task in your current side hustle or hobby, such as writing product descriptions or drafting client emails. Spend five minutes listing the steps you normally take.
- Open a free AI chatbot like ChatGPT or Claude and ask it to perform that task using a specific prompt. Example: write a 50-word product description for a handmade ceramic mug, friendly tone, mentioning dishwasher safety.
- Compare the AI output to your usual work. Note how many minutes you saved. That delta is your leverage, exactly as the survey respondents discovered.
