Forty Robot Caddies Deploy At Goyang CC. They Relay Penalty Data Too. Caddies Everywhere Should Be Nervous.
Four nine-hole public courses in Goyang, near Seoul, are competing for regulars through tech perks. Goyang CC rolled out 40 "Hello Caddy" robots in September after an August trial, built by a company called Ai. The bots relay penalty-area data and double as carts. Meanwhile Olympic pushes "The Community A" golf residence memberships bundling lodging and culture, Spring Hills uses an AI bot for green conditions, and Hanyang Fine offers green-fee discounts via Karrot.
This is commoditized differentiation in action. Each course picked a distinct tech wedge, robot caddies versus AI turf versus residence bundles, to avoid competing on price alone. The mechanism is platform substitution: a robot caddy replaces human labor while adding data capture as a bonus. When robots carry your clubs AND map penalty zones, the marginal cost of course intelligence approaches zero.
Goyang CC introduced 40 Hello Caddy units from builder Ai. Olympic, Spring Hills, and Hanyang Fine are the other three competing nine-hole courses in Goyang.
- Open ChatGPT or any free AI chatbot and ask it to act as a caddy for a fictional golf round, requesting club recommendations for each hole. You will get structured advice mimicking what a data-equipped caddy provides.
- Search YouTube for "robot caddy golf" to see footage of autonomous caddy units operating on courses. You will observe how they follow players and carry bags without human guidance.
- Open Google Maps and search "Goyang golf courses" to see the four competing venues and their proximity to each other. You will understand why differentiation matters when rivals sit kilometers apart.
