Google Opens AI Overview Reporting To Everyone. The Opt-Out Button Matters More Than The Dashboard. Obviously.
Google has rolled out generative AI performance reports in Search Console to all sites worldwide. These reports track impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. A property-specific setting in Search Console's Settings allows site owners to exclude their links and content from generative AI features.
This illustrates the principle of observability before strategy. You cannot optimize for a channel you cannot measure, and for the first time, Google is exposing AI surfaced visibility as a distinct metric from traditional search ranking. The mechanism at work is channel bifurcation: organic search and generative AI answers are now formally separate reporting surfaces, which means they require separate optimization logic.
Google is the entity rolling this out. Search Engine Journal's Matt G. Southern reported the worldwide rollout of these generative AI performance reports.
- Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with your verified site property.
- Look in the Settings section for the Search generative AI control to check whether your site's content is currently included in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- Review the new generative AI performance report to see your impression data from AI surfaces, then decide whether to keep inclusion enabled or opt out entirely.
