The mental model here is information asymmetry working against you, not for you. The taxpayer who forgets a small freelance payment is not outsmarting anyone. They are constructing a discrepancy that triggers scrutiny.

- For each freelance or side income item, identify applicable deductions such as business expenses or home office allowances under your jurisdiction's rules. Expected outcome: your taxable side income is reduced legally rather than omitted illegally.
