Google Turns Search Into A Tutor. The pH Scale Actually Moves Now. Small Victory For Visual Learners.
Google Search now generates interactive simulations and custom tools within AI Overviews. Search for something like "ph scale" and you get a dynamic visual aid instead of a static textbook excerpt. AI Mode lets you describe the specific tool or visual you need and builds it for you. The generative UI features have launched globally in English.
This illustrates the principle of dynamic representation. Static text is a lossy format for conveying systems and processes. When a learner can manipulate a variable and observe the output, comprehension shifts from memorization to causal understanding. The mechanism is called interactive scaffolding. The tool adapts to the learner rather than forcing the learner to adapt to the tool.
Google is rolling this out through Search, Lens, and AI Mode as part of a back-to-school push. The company emphasizes the tools are built to be safe by design for education contexts.
- Open google.com in your browser and search for "ph scale." Look for the AI Overview at the top of results. You should see an interactive visual element rather than just text.
- Click or drag within the interactive visual if one appears. Observe how the pH value or representation changes as you interact with it.
- If you have a specific question, visit google.com and look for the AI Mode option. Type a description of the tool or visual you need, such as "show me how supply and demand curves shift when price changes." Review what it generates.
