Apple Ships The Watch Ultra 3 Without An AI Coach. Google And Samsung Do. Tim Cook Is Asleep At The Wheel.
ZDNET's smartwatch review highlights that Apple still lacks any built-in AI system to analyze health data and guide daily wellness improvements. Google and Samsung are prioritizing this feature. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 ships with a 49mm OLED display, 42-hour battery life, 100m water resistance, and 5G cellular with satellite support.
The principle here is data without interpretation is just noise. Apple collects extraordinary health metrics but refuses to synthesize them into actionable coaching. The mechanism competitors use is continuous AI inference on personal telemetry. The lesson is that hardware specifications are table stakes. The layer that turns numbers into behavior change is where the actual value lives.
Apple shipped the Watch Ultra 3 with no AI coaching layer. Google and Samsung are building AI coaching into their competing wearables. ZDNET reviewed the full field.
- If you own an Apple Watch, open the Health app and look at your data from the past week. Notice the absence of any proactive suggestion or coaching prompt.
- Download a third-party app like Fitness AI or similar workout coaching tools from the App Store. Connect it to your Apple Health data.
- Compare the experience of raw data versus AI-interpreted recommendations. You will immediately understand the gap ZDNET is describing.
