Pixel Watch 5 Coaches You Through Reps. Google Bought The Right Fitness Company. The Integration Is The Point.

Google announced the Pixel 11 series, Pixel Watch 5, and a foldable at its Made by Google 2026 event. The standout feature is a routine that syncs directly to the Pixel Watch, which then counts reps, times rest periods, and guides you through each exercise from your wrist. Olympian Chari Hawkins from Team USA track and field took the stage to discuss the Google Health Coach, which has been live for several months since the Fitbit app was rebranded as Google Health and now imports data from fitness trackers including the Apple Watch via Apple Health syncing.

This demonstrates the concept of vertical integration in consumer AI. The mental model is closed-loop assistance: an AI plans the workout, a wearable executes the coaching, and the same system ingests the resulting biometric data to refine the next plan. That feedback loop is what separates a novelty from a platform. Most fitness wearables give you data. Google is attempting to close the loop between diagnosis and prescription.
